Swift Treatment

SWIFT® is an advanced, clinically proven technology used in podiatry and dermatology to treat verrucas and other skin lesions by delivering controlled microwave energy through a specialised probe. Microwaves, which have been safely used in medical treatments for over 30 years, penetrate the skin to heat and destroy infected tissue, prompting the immune system to recognise and eliminate the verruca-causing virus. With an impressive 75% success rate, SWIFT® is highly effective—even for stubborn verrucas that haven’t responded to other treatments.

How does it work?

Infected tissue can exist several millimetres below the surface and can often be difficult to treat using traditional methods, resulting in either untreated tissue or significant damage.

Swift delivers a precise, highly controlled energy dose. As microwaves travel into the tissue, water molecules begin colliding and creating localised heat energy – quickly destroying all infected tissue within a predetermined depth.

In just seconds the treatment is complete, leaving the body to absorb and replace the treated tissue.

When SWIFT® Microwave Therapy May Not Be Suitable

While SWIFT® is a safe and non-invasive treatment for many, there are certain situations where it might not be recommended. Before starting therapy, your podiatrist will assess your suitability.

  • Have metal pins, plates, or replacement joints near the treatment area.
  • Have a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device.
  • Suffer from poor peripheral circulation, neuropathy (nerve damage), or reduced healing capacity — these conditions may interfere with safe treatment or healing.
  • Are immunosuppressed (e.g. due to medication or medical conditions), which may blunt the immune‑system response needed for SWIFT® to work.
  • Have a low pain threshold — treatment can cause a brief stinging sensation that some find uncomfortable.
    Are pregnant or breastfeeding — immune response and healing capacity can be fluctuating during these periods.

Are young children, especially under about 8–10 years old.

If any of the above apply, it’s important to discuss them with your podiatrist before booking. They’ll examine your foot health, circulation and medical history, and advise whether SWIFT® is safe and appropriate — or if another treatment (e.g. topical, needling, cryotherapy) might be a better fit.
